Ken:
Thanks for the Post. I probably could have done a better job in describing the sound I'm hearing. It is more of a whistle rather than a hum. I have checked the ground in the wall and I’ve redone the equipment grounds, by tying all grounds I have to the back of the receiver. And then tying the receiver ground directly to the ground screw on the wall plug. I also added an EMI/RFI power strip and rearranged the rats’ nest of cables behind the equipment cabinet. Unfortunately, there has been no change in either the whistle’s frequency or its loudness.

Perhaps it is coming through the TV cable. I have low cable signal at my house. Low enough so the cable company came and pulled in a new cable from down the block for me. So to boost signal strength, I put a Radio shack inline amplifier on the line, where the cable enters my house from underground, with the “power injector” near my equipment, as per the instructions. Picture quality has definitely improved. I had thought that perhaps the amplifier was amplifying the whistle signal too. Although, I have yet to hear the whistle on a taped program, but the both of my VCR’s are upstream of the cable box.

Could the amplifier be the cause of the whistle? Could the amplifier cause the cable box to emit the whistle? Would building something like you show in Figures 8, 9 or 10 (in your Ground Loop Article) be the next step now?

Thanks,

Bob
