Power sensing may not be needed, depending on the components that you seek to control. In my home theater, just about all of my components respond to "discrete" commands. Even if these discrete commands are not on the original remote, they often exist. For example, many vendors have an explicit IR code for "power on" and "power off", which make it unnecessary to have power sensing because you can force a "known" state in any of your macros at the start. The other vital discrete controls that you will need will be for device selection on your A/V receiver and for video input mode on your video projector or television. If you have these, then you can get most of the way to where you want to be with either Pronto (aka Marantz RC5000) or H/K Take Control (aka Madrigal). Note -- in either case, programming may take you some effort. And beware! Not all equipment vendors have smartened up to provide such discrete controls.
