Assuming you can see the unfinshed bottom of the floor:
1. Locate the rear wall from the basement, using either a tape measure or clues from existing work run in that wall (plumbing or electrical) btw stay well away from either of these w/ a drill.
2. If you can't tell exactly where the wall is from below, cut the bottom off a wire coathanger. Cut one end at on a 45. Put the coathanger cutting into a drill and place against the seam of the baseboard and floor. Drill on a down angle, yes it will drill right through the floor. As it has no edges to speak of, this is usually safe for carpet too, it is not likely to cause a pull. Go downstairs, you should be able to find the other end of your coathanger. The hole this makes is very small, is hidden in the wall to floor seam, and is used for locatiing purposes only.
3. Thake a larger drill bit and drill up a 1/2" or so (depending on your down angle) behind the coathanger. You will need to drill trough the 2x4 wall framing plate and into the wall void.
4. Cut the guides off an old fishing rod section, send it up the hole and shake it around. Have someone on the other end verify your location, they will hear the rod in the wall.
5. Punch a 1" hole in the wall at the height you would like the wire to come out.
6. Bend a hook in the end of the coathanger, Have the second person shake it around in hole the wall. You will feel it in the fishing rod when you make contact.
7. When you've hooked the fishing rod, pull it tight to the wall and slowly pull the rod down, eventually the end will come to the hole in the wall and you can pull it out into the room.
8. Tape the wire to one end and pull on the other.
9. You can finish off the termination by installing a retrofit style electrical box or low voltage ring and attaching an appropriate speaker termination plate. There are plates available in spring clip, banana plug, and binding post style from Monster Cable, Sonance, Audioplex, Niles, OEM, and a host of other manufacturers.

Of course these instructions are to be followed at your own risk. There are web sites devoted to DIY wiring, http://www.wildtracks.cihost.com/homewire/default.htm is one of the better ones. Hope it helps. jcmitch
