power conditioners and surge supressors

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; AOL 4.0; Windows 98; DigExt):
Whats the scoop on power conditioners?
Do they really improve the sound? I was interested in cinepro or i saw ticeaudio makes what appear to be nice models. What does everyone else use? I live in Florida, and we get LOTS of thunderstorms. Anyone have any other companies that make good ones? I'm open to all suggestions. Thankx
