I have a (used) DC-1 with Marantz MA-500/MA-700's. Before I bought the DC-1 I had a AV-600 and tried several top AV-receivers. Neither one of them could match my AV-600/MA-500/700-combi.

The DC-1 was a noticable UPGRADE over the AV-600 and one of the best purchase I've ever made.

As you point out, the future of DVD is still moving, so go for the DC-1!!!

PS. I have a $150 PC DVD Encore linked to my DC-1 and Philips 32" Widescreen TV via SVHS and Coax and it's awesome! If you have the PC placed closed to your hifi set and you have at least a P200MMX you can experience DVD with TOP-quality for almost nothing!
