Help! Keeping all A/V powered up all the time?

Posted by Henrik Danford-Klein [IP: 12.19.169.66] on March 22, 1999 at 15:39:26
Using Mozilla/4.05 [en] (WinNT; U):

My A/V equipment power status keeps keeps getting out of sync. This is driving me crazy (and more importantly - my wife is ready to throw all my A/V out the window!)

I have all my my A/V equipment (Denon AVR-2600, Surround Processor, DVD, 2x Sat Rec, VCR etc) in a closet. I can control it with a hardwired IR Receiver/Emitter setup. Works great, EXCEPT when one of the units (i.e. the TV) is turned off independently. This happens when my 3-year turns of the TV, or you don't keep the remote pointed at the IR receiver when the power on/off macro is running.

This would be easy if all equipment had separate IR signals for ON and OFF (in addition to the toggle), but it ain't so :-(

I have been thinking about getting X10 controls with AC sensors, that allows you to build conditional IR macros, but that seems like over-kill (plus it would be expensive)

Now I am thinking about simply letting the equipment (other than the TV) stay on all the time. Would that be a problem?

Any other suggestions?
