Scott I thought it may be something to do with the sequencing of inputs that is described on page 26 of the manual, but now that I read it again it does not appear to be the case that the functionality is supposed to be different if you use a macro number button as opposed to a source button for your macro.

Have you tried calling the Marantz customer support line? I don't recall the number off-hand but if you try information for Roselle, Illinois, they should be able to find it for you.
