First terminology: what she has is a DVD-Rom (not a DVDCD-rom)drive which is compatible with DVD and CD Roms.

To connect it up to a TV you need an MPEG decoder card with the appropriate outputs installed in the computer. Most new computers with DVD drives also have such a card installed. The card will have several outputs jacks - usually s-video and composite video, coaxial digital audio and maybe analogue audio.

Connecting to a TV is pretty straightforward. If you do not have an a/v receiver to process the audio and switch inputs, connect the card direct to the TV with either an s-video or composite video cable, preferably s-video if your TV has one, for best picture quality. Connect the analogue (red and white) audio outputs to the audio inputs on the TV. This will give you a pretty basic but passable set up.

If you have an a/v receiver that can process Dolby Digital ("DD") make the video connection to it (and from it to the TV) but rather than use the analogue audio connections, use a digital audio connection from the digital connector on the card to the receiver. That way the receiver will be able to process the DD output and give you up to 5.1 channels of audio. If you only have a Dolby Prologic ("DPL") receiver, use the analogue audio connections and the receiver will process the DPL downmixed from DD by the MPEG card.

Hope this is clear. If not we can dig a little deeper.
