computer/DVD/Internet access through home theater

Posted by david [IP: 24.1.90.121] on March 31, 1999 at 01:19:14
Using Mozilla/4.5 [en]C-AtHome0402 (Win95; U):

I am considering having a computer built to hook up into my home theater that I can use for DVD as well as access the web on the TV, preferably in the PIP. Can anyone recommend computer components that would be necessary? (processer size, type of TV card, would it need a sound card, how much ram, hard drive etc.)

Any significant negatives to doing this that I am not considering? Will the quality be the same or close to a stand alone DVD player?

I currently have a Sony 53" XBR, DSS and I am considering buying the Denon 3200 and Energy Take 5 speakers with the 10" sub.

On the computer side, I have a mini-lan with 5 port hub and a cable modem that I would hook the computer up to. I would also get a cordless keyboard and mouse so I could access it from the couch.

Suggestions and feedback will be greatly appreciated.
