The terminator material should match the speaker posts - gold (or gold plated) for gold, silver for silver etc. If you are going from copper wire to a ferrous connection (silver or chrome colour) then brass or rhodium are good transition metals. If you are planning for the future, I'd recommend rhodium for humid areas and gold otherwise.

When making the connections, use compression connectors which should be properly crimped using hydraulic tools (ask your dealer about their equipment or any industrial rental place will have these if you know what you're doing). Finally, tape the connections up - this helps keep condensation out and reduces corrosion.
