Connecting 2 speakers in series will not necessarily double their sound, since each now has a smaller potential drop (voltage) across it's input terminals. So, although you have doubled the amount of air the speakers can move while at the same time making the amplifier's load easier (it doesn't have to push as much current when you double the impedance) you also reduce the amount of power that each one is receiving, by half, so each speaker won't be as loud as it would be with the full power driving it.
