Simple DVD connection question

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 95):

I recently bought a HK75 which I am very happy with, and am now planning the purchase of a dvd player. My issues are...

1.If the dd decoder is in the reciever, the extra functions of an ac3-ready dvd player are meerly just for comfort, and do not play that big of a role in sound/picture quality.. Am I totally wrong with this assumption?

2.What kind of outputs should I look for on the back of my dvd player? Since my receiver has a dd decoder on it, is there special output/input wire schemes that are superior?
