Cable lengths - audio or video more critical?

I am just setting up my first 'real' home theatre setup, and I have a question about cable lengths. I would like to keep most of the equipment together to keep cables as short as possible. However, they will be around 5m from the TV. Is there any problem with cables this length? Would it be better to keep the video sources (DVD, VCR, set-top box) under the TV and route their sound to the decoder/amp, or is it better to keep the decoder/amp close to the signal source and have long video cables? I'm not that worried about the stereo outs from the VCR and set-top box, but I don't know much about digital outputs from DVD players (I'm planning to use the coax output to connect to my DD decoder)Any help gratefully received
