As far as I know the RM-TP501E is used for the Sony TA-9000ES and the RM-TP501 for the Sony STR-DA50ES.
You can contact the Sony Service Center about upgrading to an improved back light (brighter) and approx. 3x longer battery life on your RM-TP501 remote.
