I used a technique similiar to Mike's. He sounds like he is pushing a 12-volt fan with 6 volts. I am using a standard computor-power-supply-type cooling fan to ventilate our home entertainment center. Space and construction constrained the natural convection currents, so I had to ventilate. I potted (potentiometer) the fan to run at about half throttle. Actually, I turned down the pot until I could not hear the fan, but it was still moving air. Did not take a hurricane to get an adequete air change. Works great! Temperature drop was very dramatic and silent. You probably have enough change in your pocket to pay for the potentiometer or rheostat at Radio Shack. A little solder, a little tape, and voila'.
