What to listen to when selecting equipment?

While you have listed some of my personal favs, these are not (IMO) the best for evalation purposes ( I have no knowledge of Vazaldi though...). Generally, use female vocals. Holly Cole's Tempation CD is a good one, or Diana Krall. The music may or may not suit you, but its good for this purpose.

I also take one of several test CDs/DVD that I have that are particularly suited to system evaluations. Delos has one, as does Chesky and Hi-Fi News. These can be found in Audio Advisor and some other on-line places. There is a CD listed in the Audio Advisor catalog that I think does a decent job of explaining what to listen for, along with tracks that demonstrate.
I forget the name of it, but it as a picture of an ear on the cover.

Be sure that you don't just buy some CDs and then start auditioning. You should be very, very familiar with the recording and how it sounds in your system before you audition any other systems.
