Tannoy Mercury M2 and M3 Posted by SFDude [IP: 207.205.141.151] on December 09, 1998 at 18:46:13: In Reply to: Tannoy Mercury M2 and M3 posted by Damir on November 27, 1998 at 17:05:33: : I'm looking for a good mid class speakers to run on H/K AVR65. Based on listening tests and comments from this and other forums I found boxes I like - Tannoy Mercury M2. I plan to buy M3 for front L/R channel, M2 (for surround L/R) and mC (center). Unfortunately, my local Tannoy dealer only had M2. M3 and new shippment of M2.5 (replacements for M2) will arive next week. I liked M2, but I can't get them anymore - they're sold out (I listened to the last (demo) pair). My dealer said M2.5 are esentially the same as M2 (few minor improvements). M2.5 are cheaper than M2 so I'm afraid of those "improvements". Also, I did not listen M3 and would like to hear other people opinions. Damir, I have the M3's and from midrange on up through the treble range, they are quite a performer for the price class indeed. They don't go very low (rolls off about 42Hz in my room) but that could be with my amplification choice (tubes, EL34 PP). They do sound close to the quality of the Vandersteen 1C's I have as well (which is about $300 more with the recommended stands). You won't have many regrets with the M3.
