Bose Acoustimass-10 Questions

My wife gave me a Bose Acoustimass-10 HT. And I have a few questions. I hope this is the right place and format for these questions.

Is the Acoustimass unit a true sub woofer?

Some one told me that I should replace the center channel satalite with a real center channel speaker. Supposelly so that the dialog would be clearer. Would this really help?

Can the satalite speakers be used without the Acoustimass unit? That is with some other sub woofer or does their frequency response limit them to the Acoustimass unit.

I assume the crossover is in the Acoustimass unit. Is this true.

Would these speakers benefit from the addition of a powered subwoofer?
