Bose Acoustimass-10 Questions Posted by Kevin Lesko [IP: 163.191.39.2] on December 29, 1998 at 16:12:52: In Reply to: Bose Acoustimass-10 Questions posted by George Weir on December 29, 1998 at 10:41:20: George, I am going to give you my $0.02. Don't bother with a different center channel, take the Bose back, and consider some better quality speakers for the same price, or at least listen to them before you spend any more money with the Bose. My suggestion would be a systems from NHT, Paradigm or my personal vote for bang for the buck the Energy Take 5. Don't buy the Bose marketing hype. The Acoustimass unit NOT a subwoofer, no matter what the salesman may tell you. The system would probably benefit from a "real center channel speaker" do to the poor frequency response of the little cubes. The response of the small cubes roll-off sharply at about 250 Hz. Bose uses cheap mid/tweeters with a "subwoofer" that's not a subwoofer. The mid/tweeter and the subwoofer don't even match up well, leaving a dip in the frequency response between about 90 Hz and 250 Hz, if my memory serves me well. If you can directly compare the Bose and one of the systems above I think it will be quite apparent that Bose just don't hold their own. Listen for yourself and decide. With the Energy Take 5 system you may even have a few hundred buck to spend upgrade some of you other equipment.
