Bose Acoustimass-10 Questions Posted by Alan L. Maier [SysOp] [IP: 129.37.205.142] on December 29, 1998 at 22:44:31: In Reply to: Bose Acoustimass-10 Questions posted by George Weir on December 29, 1998 at 10:41:20: George, Taking it from the top... : Is the Acoustimass unit a true sub woofer? No the acoustimass bass section is not a true subwoofer, but a bass unit which extends down to the middle 40Hz range. : Some one told me that I should replace the center channel satalite with a real center channel speaker. Supposelly so that the dialog would be clearer. Would this really help? No - run the center speaker as Bose intended. Be sure to set your receiver's center mode to "normal" if it is Dolby Pro Logic or "small" if it is an AC-3 system. : Can the satalite speakers be used without the Acoustimass unit? NO! Follow the directions to the letter as there are crossover components in the bass section. The satellies have a rather high lower-limit so stick with the Acoustimass unit. If you wish to install a true subwoofer, place it in series with the speaker inputs on the Bose system. : I assume the crossover is in the Acoustimass unit. Is this true. Yes. : Would these speakers benefit from the addition of a powered subwoofer? Yes. : Thanks Your welcome! Alan
