You should limit volume when the bass gets distorted and ill controlled. Clipping is especially fatal to tweeters, but it is harder to recognise than woofer distortion. Your tweeter will make shrill sounds and sound more tizzy. If your speakers have a sensitivity of 90 dB/1 m/1 Watt or higher, you probably will never be in any trouble, unless you listen at levels of 105 dB or higher, which will cause ear damage.

: Is there someone who can explain to me what speaker clipping is actually caused by? Is it the amount of current that the receiver puts out?

: You see, I have a HK AVR65 receiver, and I do turn up the volume quite high. I want to make sure that I am not damaging my speakers by listening to it at high volumes. The HK puts out 65wpc +/- 40amps. At what point should I limit the volume.

: Thanks
