Gary,

Each doubling of power will only get you 3dB and slightly less distortion at similiar output levels.

I have a room about the size of yours with open areas attached and I run two 18" 500W DT PF-1800s and am happy with their performance. On Broken Arrow you can feel the ground wave in my concrete slab when the bomb goes off underground!

With subs larger is better and more power is better. You may want to check into the DT PF-18TL or PF-15TL which seem like a good deal.

I would not recommend anything smaller than 15" for a sub.

Good Luck and Happy New Year, Don

: Currently I have a Klipsch 50W ($200) sub-woofer. Occasionally, at higher volumes, the sub sounds a little muddy. I'm pretty sure I have it set up properly, considering volume, crossover, speaker settings, etc. My room is 15x24 & is open to a kitchen area. Also, I have the Klipsch Synergy Quintet speakers & a Yamaha 795 receiver.

: What will I notice with an upgraded sub? Will a Klipsch 100W make a noticable difference? Or, for the same $200 will I improve my results with an Energy ES8 or Infinity 100W? I'm not necessarily looking for louder, but perhaps a better blend at higher volumes. Any suggestions?
