small speakers+bass

I have a pair of klipsch KSB 1.1 speakers. I bought some wooden stands because i was re-doing my room. Today i was just experimenting, and they have very bad bass without the sub. I put them on the ground, and the bass was much better to my liking, but that could never be, because, well they are on the ground!! They are about 10 inches away from the wall. Is there anything i can do to get that good bass, without lowering them?
