Surround speakers: 2 monopoles in series = dipole?

Posted by Scott Avery [IP: 207.172.60.253] on January 09, 1999 at 21:13:25:

I was wondering what the effect would be of putting a pair of surrounds on each side, wired in series, and facing 45 degrees off axis in each direction.

I have 5 different pairs of speakers in my apartment, but none match. I would have to go buy a matching pair to try this. Is it going to be worth my effort or is this just a silly idea?

I was thinking I could easily reverse which connector I use to change from dipole to bipole.

Any thoughts?
