I just bought a pair of 602's and am facing the same challenge. The dealer I bought from recommended the DM302 at $250 as a substitute for the 601's. I asked about tonal matching, he said they would work great (he also would let me exchange for 601's if I did not like the 302's).

The 302 is an incredible little speaker, with better bass than the 601 IMHO.
