NHT superone with JVC amp?

Posted by Andrei Kulakov [IP: 209.86.129.236] on January 11, 1999 at 00:36:47:

Hello,

I'm shopping for a pair of speakers in $300-$400 range. From what I read in goodsound.com, soundstage.com and in this forum, I made a little round-up:

Paradigm MiniMonitors
NHT SuperOnes
B&W 602

and that I should stay away from Bose, Infinity and Cambridge soundworks.

I have a JVC RX-770V receiver (100w/ch, 20hz-20khz@+-1dB, 0.06THD, 80dB). From the stuff I read I realize I could've possibly gotten alot better amp for the same $175 few months ago... so here are my questions:

Should I consider other speakers? Are these too good for this amp? Is there any sense in using low quality amp with these speakers? Should I shell out another $300 for a decent amp from Marantz or Rotel? What is a good cd player to use with this combination, is Marantz good?

Also, I currently have a pair of Wald speakers. Is Wald supposed to be good, bad, in the middle? I find them pretty bad and weak.

Note that I listen to most styles from Classical to Rap but 80% is classical rock, rap and techno.

Thanks,

Andrei
