Speakers suitable for digital surround? Posted by Paul Godden [IP: 24.64.32.180] on January 15, 1999 at 00:39:26: Ok hi everyone, glad I found this forum as I am wanting to upgrade my home entertainment system and well, technology has changed since I looked at bit and pieces five years ago. Question: I have a set of Audiosphere research Monitor 18L speakers, they consist of a 18inch woofer, 2 - 5" midranges and 4 - 3.5" peizo horn tweeters, the ratings on these babies - 24-22000 and 200 watts rms. I want to upgrade to a digital a/v receiver, probably the Yamaha RX-V995 and a Digital DVD player presently the Panasonic DVD-A310 (open to other suggestions). Is it a problem using my speakers in the surround sound set up? I notice all the newer surround system front channel speakers are small and compact. Would the amp prevent the use of the 18" woofer or is there some way to utilize this to my advantage as a sub woofer? Sorry for the barrage of questions just dont know where my Old equipment fits into this whole thing.... BTW: I am thinking of 2 fronts, (hopefully the Monitors), 2 sides and 2 rear speakers as well as the center channel and Sub if neccesary.
