Def Tech in-wall speakers Posted by kengle [IP: 198.107.240.31] on January 15, 1999 at 16:05:20: In Reply to: Def Tech in-wall speakers posted by Harry M on January 14, 1999 at 15:33:26: I have the BP-2004's and the CLR-2002. For surrounds I went with the Pro 100's in my 14' X 14' family room. I listen to a lot of DTS music discs(which IMHO exercises the pro 100's more than most movies do)and I have NEVER been dissapointed. The nice thing about them is that they are small and VERY easily installed on the wall (the stands also serve as sturdy wall mounts). They also match very well with the 2004's! Which by the way, are awesome speakers!!! They muster up more low end rumble than my family room can take! I decided not to go with in-walls because: 1) wanted to take them with me if I move, 2) the Pro 100's can be rotated on the wall mounts to point exactly where you want them, and 3)I wasn't sure what kind of speaker box my wall was going to make. : I've auditioned the Pro Monitor 100's and 200's. The 200's sound much better (a lot more bass), but they're just too big to mount on the walls in my family room (listening position is to the side). The 100's are the right size, but I'd like to have a little bit more speaker. I've decided bipolar surrounds won't work because the back wall is another 15' behind the listening position. : I had dismissed the idea of in-wall speakers, but then I read about Def Tech's new in-wall speaker, the UIW-75. It has two 6-1/2" cast-basket bass/midrange drivers, and a 1" aluminum tweeter. I believe these are the same drivers as the BP2000. They're $650/pr, as opposed the $350/pr for the 100's and $450/pr for the 200's. : On paper they sound great. Assuming I could build a box in the wall to surround them, do you think I'd be happy with these? Unfortunately, my full-price Def Tech dealer will not let me buy the speakers on a trial basis, and exchange them for something else later. He said they don't do that with "the inexpensive stuff"!
