The AC650's are a pretty good value, but I knew something was missing. I had listened to some Thiels, pretty incredible but at $1450 a pair, way out of my price range. But I ended up getting a pair of B&W 602's. I originally was very impressed with the AC650's, but no comparison vs. the 602's(A/B comparison vs. the AC650's showed this). The 602's made the 650's sound boxy, very shallow in the mid range (male vocals just aren't there with the Pin's). My advice, go listen to the "best" speakers you can find at almost any price (at least 3 times your budget), Thiels, B&W's, Celestion, etc. Then, listen in your price range. This way, you can compare to the best and determine what you will be satisfied with. I know the 602's at $500 are twice the price, but they are worth it IMHO. I would have regretted keeping the AC650's. Build quality is average. That said, the AC650's are still excellent at their price point. From what I've read, you might want to take a listen to the Paradigm Mini-monitors as well. Sorry for rambling. Good luck!
