Vandersteen Sub Posted by Bill on September 28, 1998 at 10:53:26: In Reply to: Vandersteen Sub posted by Geoffrey B. on September 27, 1998 at 11:39:11: : Looking for a very musical sub that is also good for HT. Is the Vandy 2wV a good choice at a discounted $1075.00? Anybody reading this forum own or auditioned one? You could also try the Bag End Infrasub18. It is getting very positive reviews with reviewers saying it is the most natural sub they've ever tried. Design principle is sort of similar to the Vandersteen, in that it operates below it's resonant frequency. When subs are designed that way, generally their freq and phase response are more consistent and predictable. Both companies would claim that one of the main reasons their subs sound so musical and blend so well is because of the better phase response. I think the Bag End is going to be more flexible in its hookup options - from the review I read in SGTHT (#17), it is possible to hook it directly up to a sub out or LFE out. While I don't disagree with inserting the sub off the main speakers, if it is the only sub in a DD HT setup, you could loose some control over the LFE output, like LFE bass limiter, LFE mix level, and remote control of overall sub level. I have a Lex DC-1, where all these things are possible, but I would loose them if the sub were connected in parallel with the L/R mains run full range. It's nice to be able to control all of that from the pre's remote control, as I like different sub levels in music versus movies. Bill
