Subwoofer set-up question Posted by Chris C [IP: 128.249.21.251] on October 29, 1998 at 11:05:21: Hi. I have the CP3+ processor and the ACI Titan sub. The problem I'm having is that the subwoofer out automatically filters out anything above 80 cycles. So, the easiest thing to do to integrate the sub is to set the processors high pass filter to on (automatically filters out anything below 80 cycles to the fronts/center). However, I prefer to keep the subwoofer x-over as low as possible (50 cycles) as I don't like the way higher x-overs seem to distort the sound somewhat. So, I have the fronts/center running full range (-3dB at 50 cycles) and am using the sub line-out that automatically filters anything out above 80 cycles and have the sub x-over set at 50 cycles to integrate it with the main speakers. The sub is brand-new so I probably shouldn't judge it yet, but I am not sure I am happy with the sound/integration. I have been told that having the processor sub out x-ing over at 80 cycles and using the 50 cycle x-over in the sub creates two 'poles' that will introduce signal degradation. Is this true? What is a better way to integrate the sub? Any suggestions appreciated.
