Subwoofer set-up question Posted by Reg [IP: 150.237.116.48] on October 29, 1998 at 11:52:08: In Reply to: Subwoofer set-up question posted by Chris C on October 29, 1998 at 11:05:21: Have you tried setting the sub crossover to something in between 50Hz and 80Hz? You may find that some degree of overlap between main speakers and subwoofer improves things, although of course you wouldn't want too much overlap or it'll get boomy. As for the degradation, this can happen if you have too much going on in the signal path (i.e. multiple crossovers), although I don't exactly know why. I do remember reading that for a two-way filter, the low frequency signal's phase can be shifted by 180 degrees, which would presumably have some effect (there was a correcting circuit along with the article). Maybe it's a combination of factors. Anyone else have an idea?
