: Hi,
: Would someone help me on the following:

: 1. The speakers I used have two sets of binding posts for biwiring, but my amplifier doesn't. Can I twist the four speaker wires into two groups and plug them into my amplifier to achieve bi-wiring?

: 2. What is the benefit of using bannana plugs as compared to connecting speaking wires directly into the binding posts? I heard people said this could minimise oxidation. But I wonder whether oxidation would occur at the wire/bannana plug connection instead?

: 3. What is the difference between normal interconnected cables and digital coaxial cables?

: 4. When connecting the LFE output of a DD amplifier to an active subwoofer through the line level input/output, would both normal interconnected cables and digital coaxial cables do the job? Is there any cable specially designed for this purpose?

: Thanks

: I can't help you with everything, but
I'll give it my best try: *As far as the
speaker wire connection, I too was going
to go with banana plugs, but the guy at
the A/V store actually talked me out of
buying them! He said since bare wire is the most direct connection it is the
way to go. Just make sure the posts
stay tight at all times. *Digital
coaxial cables are what you use if you
are not using a Toslink (optical) digital cable. ANY cable that connects
two components is called an interconnect. A DVD player, for example, will have an output for a digital coax or optical Toslink cable, or both. Dig. coax is supposed to be better because it doesn't have the cheap
plastic connection of a Toslink. *To connect up to your sub, you should again
use a well-sheilded coax sub cable to handle all the power going through it.
I use an Audioquest Jade, but there are
several out there that will do the job.
Good Luck.
