Excellent questions!

I'd just like to emphasize Stuart's advice and to add my perspective: using lugs or banana's also is not only a good idea if you're re-connecting a lot, but also if you've NOT reconnecting a lot. Even normal humidity causes oxidation and interconnect problems over time. But most of all, its so easy to resolve by adding the spade lug or banana solutions. Our engieering shop guys always solder their own gold spades (tinkerers, to a fault!) but those solutions never oxidize.
