Best Bass Speaker for my BOSE SYSTEM? That is the subwoofer I was thinking of, and it's quite good. I was not familiar with the B&K receiver, but indeed if you set the bass management to filter out bass from the front mains you will be better off using the LFE output just as the dealer suggested. I can see that smile on your face already! Alan : Thanks for the input. I have added the URL for the PS1000 at the bottom of this message. : I'm still confused about the speaker vs. line level input. It sounds like you are saying either would be OK. If I set my receiver to small speakers (I think that is an 80hz cutoff) and adjust the PS1000 to around 90hz or so, then wouldn't that help the Bose offload the lower frequencies and help the midrange? Thanks again for your input! : === Tim : : : Paradigm builds some very good subwoofers and I have heard a number of them. I can't "place the face" of the one you have in mind, however odds are it's a good unit. Also consider the Yamaha '300 and '150 powered subwoofers - an excellent value! : : I suggested using the speaker level setup to take a bit of strain off the Acoustimass bass section. While that system is well tuned and audible distortion is very low due to the porting, reducing the low bass demand will provide an improvement in th mid-bass area. The dealer's idea is okay as well since the Acoustimass bass section can handle a lot of power. : : I am sure you will be pleased with the B&Ws - there is a lot to be enjoyed with them! With your dealer selling Paradigm, I recommend you keep that brand in mind as well. : : As for the boomy bass, sadly in all too many audio demo rooms the bass in turned way too high both in level and crossover point. : : Alan : : : Alan - : : : I have the AM5 and AM7 speakers. I, too, am looking at adding a sub to my system. I was talking to my dealer today and he has a used (6 mos old) Paradigm PS-1000 he is offering to sell me for $335. : : : Is this a good deal? : : : He suggested using the line level input as a connection from my B&K AVR202 rather than the speaker level input. You recommended using the speaker level input in your message with the AM system. Which is better and why? : : : What is your opinion of the PS-1000 sub? It sounded pretty boomy in the demo room. There was a significant difference with and without it. The room I demoed in it was about 16'x24'x10' high. My room at hom is 20'x20'x10' high. Comments? : : : Thanks for your comments/help! : : : Oh, if it matters, I am looking at replacing the Bose with B&W speakers in the future. I am looking at the 604/603 for the font and 602 for rears or the CDM7SE front and CDM1SE rear with the CC6 center. : : : === Tim
