: I have an Onkyo 828THX receiver and a Velodyne powered subwoofer, on the back of the Onkyo there is a sub output and a sub preout. My question is: which one would be better to put the sub in, the output or preout and why? Another question, there is an internal crossover in the Onkyo and a crossover on the sub, which one would be better to use? Thanks in advance.

Can't say for sure but here is a good guess: I would use the sub out and not the pre out. (they may even be one in the same) The crossover built in to the Velodyne was designed with that driver and with that amp. Onkyo has no way of knowing what will be used on the preouts. I would try both and my bet is that you really can't tell any difference.
