Dan,

: 75 ohm for digital: can I use inexpensive RG6 or RG59 then nr my DVD player to Receiver?

DVD player to receiver links only carry bitstream signals and PCM, so unlike Dolby Digital RF screening isn't paramount, but I'd still select a cable with at least two levels of shielding. You could select a 75ohm RG59/u or RG6/u quad shield (100% foil shields and aluminium braids sometimes with drain wires) for maximum signal isolation. Even so, a length shouldn't be at all expensive.

Remember that you'll need 75ohm RCA plugs too, and terminate the shield only at the transport end to avoid any potential problems with ground loops.

: I don't change speakers around alot and access to the back of the speakers and receiver is farely good. Should I then save a few bucks and order the wire unterminated?

I would. Plugs or spades aren't going to gain anything if you carefully capture the cable with your binding posts. What's more, if in the unlikely event the cable and/or terminal oxidises it's easily fixed; you can clean the terminal and cut an inch of the cable and re-connect.

If you want to get really "tweaky" you could order some Caig DeoxIT for old connections or in your case, PreservIT, a product which will seal and preserve your electrical connections. A little more expensive than your cable terminations perhaps, but you can use it everywhere throughout your system. Link at the foot of this message.

Stuart.
