The am-10 has bass? :) Yes, you should get a good powered sub. Depending on how much you want to spend. For budget, Klipsch KSW-150 si good (I have it.), Yamaha, and AR have some good stuff. Should match well with the cubes. I think you should cut ou the am-10 bass unit, and there is a simple way to do it. Run your speaker wire from the amp/receiver to the sub. From the sub, to the am-10 bass unit. The subs mentioned above have a crossover, and will send the low frequency to the sub. No bass will be sent to the am-10 unit, so it won't produce any bass. (Or distortion in this case.) But the high frequency will still be passed to the cubes.

I've got a much better solution for you though. Sell that bose and go get the energy take-5 setup for $500. Comes with speakers about the same size as the bose that look better (Shiny black finish) and sound better, and an 8" sub that kicks the am-10 up and down the street.

Even if you think it might be a bother to sell the bose and buy a new setup, take a listen to the take-5. Make sure you crank 'em. Compare side by side to the am-10 if you can.

Good luck!
