Rear surround suggestions?
Posted by Philip Brandes [IP: 152.204.169.211] on March 26, 1999 at 02:29:31 In Reply to: Rear surround suggestions? posted by steve sheinbaum on March 26, 1999 at 00:12:11: Dipoles should only be mounted directly to the sides of the listening position. If you put them in the rear, it will inevitably compromise the dipole advantages so you might as well use directs. Also, in an AC-3 system you need surrounds with full high frequency extension. The B&W Ds6s roll off around 12 kHz, so they are unsuitable. The NHT HDP-2s have full HF, but they are dipoles. I don't knwo the Klipsch model you mention, but it's a horn-loaded speaker. Your three choices are very different sounding. I suggest you get something matched to your front speakers (i.e., same manufacturer and line). Hope this helps,
