You didn't say if you have any physical limitation, i.e., what size speakers can your room/spouse stand?

I think with your budget, you'll be looking at the bookshelf size models, which is what I was shopping a few months ago. Two different systems/combinations distinguished themselves:

(1) Boston Acoustics Micro 90t satellites, their VR-10 center, and their 10" sub.

(2) 4 NHT Super 1s, the NHT middle grade center speaker (I can't remember the model number, but it had two 5" or so midrange drivers and a tweeter), and the Velodyne 1012 or 1210 sub.

Both combos were in the $1,100 to $1,300 range for the 6 speaker constellation.

Can't help you with someone who'll ship to Brazil. Sounds to me though that it cost you in shipping and insurance what you'll save over buying locally. Good luck.

Try Uncles Stereo in NY (www.unclestereo.com) and Your Electronic Warehouse (www.4electronicwarehouse.com). Not sure that both sell all of what I've described. When I was shopping the Bostons, I found only one dealer willing to sell via mail order/internet order, and that was only after I convinced him I'd actually seen them in his store. I think many of the high end manufacturers prohibit their dealers from selling by mail order in order to preserve their marketing networks. In the case of many (Yamaha RXV receievers, most notoriously), the warranty is said to be void on mail order boxes.
