Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (Win98; I):

The THX Ultra spec for surrounds is dipole. THX select (under 2000 cubic foot room) allows direct radiators. Each mounted directly to the sides of the listener and above the ear.

If your set up is mostly home-theater, use dipoles.

In the end it is your preference.
