Rear Speaker Placement

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 98):

Help!!!!

I'm trying to install a pair of B&W CWM650's (ceiling mount) and would appreciate any input as to their placement.

Here is what I'm working with:
* 8 ft. ceiling
* Sofa/sectional backed up to rear wall
(approx. 10 ft. along rear wall).
* Mains are approx. 7 ft. apart and
12 ft. from sofa.

The problem I am having is deciding how far apart to place the surrounds. When placed directly opposite of the mains, they seem to be too close together for my seating arrangement (10 ft. of sofa). Should I increase the distance between them to accommodate a larger seating area? Will this affect the overall effects of the surrounds?
