Yamaha RX-V595 and 4 Ohm center?

Posted by Tom Hicks [IP: 209.91.1.198] on April 25, 1999 at 17:13:57
Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows 98):

I am thinking of purchasing a Yamaha RX-V595 receiver. My local Yamaha dealer is selling it for $454. All of my speakers are 8 Ohms except for my center channel which is 4 Ohms. I have a few questions.

1. Is the RX-V595 a good choice? I probably listen to music 60% of the time and watch movies 40% of the time.

2. Is $454 a good price? I don’t usually like to buy big items through mail order outfits.

3. Will the Yamaha be capable of handling my 4 Ohm center channel along with the 8 Ohm front and rear speakers? Can this type of mixing damage the hardware?

4. The RX-V595 has a switch in the back for low or regular impedance speakers. Should this be on “low” or “normal” for my setup?

Any information you can provide would be helpful.

Thanks,

Tom
