Bose 901 for HT

Just make sure that you use the pre-out and main-in inputs and not the tape in/out loop! You do not state which 901 series you have. Pre series IV are not very efficient, probably 87dB/W/m or less, and do not sound great by today's standards. In fact the big sound stage of the 901s are more suited to HT than stereo audio. Many audiophiles complain of their unrealistic large sound stage for piano recitals. I am using a pair of series VI with a B&W CC6 centre mated to the DSP-A1 with no efficiency mismatch problems. The CC6 is rated at 89dB/W/m compared to the 91dB/W/m of the CLR-2000. In fact my centre could be more efficient and I think it would be a better match to my 901s. My only grip with my centre is that its LF response needs to extend to about 50Hz to match the Bose and this is where I think the Definitive will do a better job. I have not had the opportunity to listen to the CLR-2000, and cannot comment on Alan's comment about it being bright, but if the Definitive presents a big sound stage, then you have a fairly good match to the 901s. Due to the refective design of the 901s, placement is critical to achive optimal sound. I hope you do not have a large TV situated between the 901s blocking the reflected sound. Also use the 40Hz cut-off on the Bose equaliser and let your sub do all the hard work. Regarding the sub, why not go for a 15 inch Definitive sub. I would not consider their 12 inch sub because I think 125W is a bit under powered for DD HT use. There are plenty of 12" subs in the 200W range for the same price.
