Although the PS1000 can tremendous low bass volume, the sound may be a little muffled, and this may be perceived as distortion and less clean. The Energy ES10 is a front firing subwoofer with a sealed enclosure. Its replacement model is the e:XL-S10...very similar but it has open port in the rear. I have listened to both Energy models, and they are very good with tight clean bass. For your budget, also consider a Velodyne CT-100 or CT-120 which are also front firing subwoofers with a slotted port in the front. Listen and compare. In regards to your speaker selections for the center and rear channels, I suggest that you stay with the same brand. Polk's CS300 center speaker is a good match for the RT600s. If you can afford it, I would suggest getting a second pair of RT600s for the rear channels. This would be especially advantageous for an HT setup utilizing Dolby Digital. Having all speakers made by the same manufacturer promotes better timbre matching because of similar drivers. You can get a subwoofer from a different manufacturer since subwoofers produce only low bass frequency. It is however important to get a subwoofer that produces clean tight bass, especially for music. Will
