David,

THX loudspeakers have certain dispersion characteristics (needed to obtain certification) such as controlled vertical dispersion and THX surrounds must be dipoles. There are some instances where these characteristics are not ideal for music reproduction (rears especially).

That said, there is no reason you shouldn't use any 'normal' loudspeaker for home theatre, other than the centre being magnetically shielded. The choice will simply depend on your taste.

What I'm trying to get at here is that if you particularly like a non-THX design do not assume it will be inferior - stick with your choice.

Personally, I don't use THX 'speakers in any role - all my loudspeakers are what one could consider 'audiophile' level Tannoy, including their huge D750 centre which would put many a THX centre to shame. High-end manufacturers have no need nor desire to obtain THX certification for what they already feel are excellent designs which outperform Mr. Lucas' specifications.

Stuart.
