Building Subwoofers

Using Mozilla/4.06 [en]C-gatewaynet (Win98; I):

I would like to add subwoofers to my system. I have a pair of ESS 1A cabnients that the old cones have rotted away. They originaly had 12" cones and a 12" passive radiator in the back. Would it be possible to install 12" sub drivers in each one and power them with the NHT SA-3 amb/crossover that I already own ? Any driver recomendation ? Should I lose the passive radiator in the back or does this help the bass extention ??
