Subwoofers making popping noise

Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (Win95; U):

I have an H/K AVR65 recevier with Infinity Overature speakers. These speakers have built-in sub-woofers. When listening to standard TV at low volume, the sub-woofers seem to crack and pop occasionally. It seems as though whenever the audio has a low frequency output, the sub-woofers "wake-up" and then after a while they go back to sleep.

Is this normal? I can't imagine having to live with this popping noise all of the time. Is it the wiring? Anyone else ever have this sort of problem?
