Speakers to match with Yamaha DSP A1

BP-10Bs for the front (now $500 each), C/L/R 2000 for the center (now $750, they have lower price centers, but you don't want to skimp on the center, common mistake), BP-10's (older model) for the rears, and PF1500 for the sub (no longer available, but the PF1500TL is $900 and PF15TL is $700). I am using old cheapo Radio Shack speakers for the front surrounds. Definitive also has fronts with built-in subs (the BP2004 system was rated AA by SGHT). You can also use their smaller BP2X ($500/pair) or BP1X ($350/pair) for surrounds (ok to save money with the surrounds). They have various models at various prices that should easily fit your $3000 budget. But like all speakers, you have to go listen (what originally convinced me to buy the first BP-10s). I think even the lowly BP-10Bs sound great, even without a built-in sub, which is all I had for a while (but a sub will be required for heavy HT bass, i.e. explosions, etc.). The important thing is to go listen to speakers and find ones that YOU like (take along your favorite CDs/movies). There are plenty of speakers out there that sound good in your price range). One last thing, if you haven't bought the DSP-A1 yet, you should also consider the Denon AVR-5700 (has a tuner, DD, DTS and is Ultra THX certified). This was not available when I got my DSP-A1 (which does not have THX, but does have Cinema EQ). Would I change my mind? That is hard to say, I have enjoyed Yamaha's DSP for years now and would probably hate to give it up, but the Denon is worth serious consideration. The Denon is a couple of hundered dollars more, but if you already spending that much money, what's a little more. But the DSP-A1 IS a great flexible unit and I don't regret its purchase one little bit.
