I recently talked to Dr. Hsu about the 1225 and he said that it is best to buy it with the amp since it has an equalization circuit to flatten response down to 25hz, and a subsonic filter at 25hz to protect it below that. If you use your own amp, it will only be flat down to 40hz and drops -6db below that. I bought the 1225 without the amp since I have a Carver M200 which pumps 400W in mono and would like to try it out with that first. Will let you know the results once I receive and have tried the 1225 sometime this week. Call Hsu Research and talk to Dr. Hsu, he is very helpful (if he is there).
